WHY GLANCEDOCK EXISTS

Built like a tool. Not like a service.

powershell · receipts ● running
PS> tasklist | findstr glance
glancedock.exe    1 native process
# rendering: Windows' own WebView2, shared.
# no bundled Chromium, no Electron.
# a loaded two-monitor desktop ≈ 400 MB,
# lighter than many single-window Electron apps.
One small Rust process on the WebView2 Windows already runs. A loaded two-monitor desktop lands around 400 MB, less than many Electron apps. Live cameras and video cost more; that part's honest.
Sharing your screen?

One keystroke hides mail, notes, and cameras: everything personal. Instantly.

Nothing to sign into

No account, no cloud, no telemetry. GlanceDock talks only to the services you configure: your mail server, your homelab, your weather. And to nothing else.

Secrets stay in the OS vault

Mail passwords, API tokens, camera credentials go straight to Windows Credential Manager, never a plain-text config. The layout file on disk is provably secret-free.

Your license is verified offline

Keys are checked on your machine. The app never phones home to activate. No server ever sees your key, and it keeps working whether or not we're around.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Something else? The docs cover setup, licensing, and the offline license in depth.

Is it Windows only?

Yes. GlanceDock is built natively for Windows 10/11 and uses WebView2 (which ships with current Windows).

Does it phone home?

No. No telemetry, no account, no cloud. It only contacts the services you set up (your mail server, your homelab, YouTube, etc.).

Where are my passwords stored?

In Windows Credential Manager, the OS's own encrypted vault, never in a plain-text config file. The layout file on disk is provably secret-free.

Will widgets get in the way of my work?

No. They're click-through by default; your clicks reach the desktop. Only the specific control you hover becomes interactive.

Is the YouTube widget really ad-free?

It plays the raw video/audio streams directly, which carry no injected ads. It uses the widely-used yt-dlp tool, which you can update in one click when YouTube changes.

Multiple monitors?

Fully supported: a widget layer per display, and drag widgets between them.

Is it free?

Yes, free forever for up to 3 widget instances: everything included, no account, no telemetry. To unlock every widget there is a single one-time payment: during the public beta a Founder license is $9, and it stays price-locked forever, covering every 1.x release and future major versions at that same $9. From version 1.0 the Standard license is $19. Keys are verified offline on your machine. The app never phones home to activate.
